Rascal Flatts new single "Why" off of their Unstoppable CD

As I have mentioned multiple times Rascal Flatts is by far my favorite country band. They have sang songs about love, friendship, good times, many types of heartbreak and even about a girl with cancer. I have absolutely loved every song they have released no matter what it is about until I heard their latest single "Why." If you haven't heard it yet "Why" is a slow song about a 17 year old that committed suicide. The main line in the song is "Oh God only knows what went wrong and why you would leave the stage in the middle of a song." I know a lot of people have been affected by suicide including the members of Rascal Flatts because Jay and Gary's Uncle killed himself and Joe Don had a friend in high school that killed himself. But, there is just something about this song that makes me feel really uncomfortable and its a type of song I never expected to hear from Rascal Flatts. The members of Rascal Flatts have said that they have released this song to help people realize that there is other options besides suicide but I just can't see this as a song that should be playing on K102 or other country stations. I might be completely wrong about this one but let me know what you think.

Why lyrics:

You must have been in a place so dark
You couldn't feel the light
Reaching for you through that stormy cloud
Now here we are gathered in our little home town
This cant be the way you meant to draw a crowd

Oh why, thats what Im asking
Was there anything i could have said or done
Oh I had no clue you were masking a troubled soul
God only knows what went wrong and why you'd leave the stage in the middle of a song

Now in my mind i'll keep you frozen as a 17 year old
Rounding third to score the winning run
You always played with passion no matter what the game
When you took the stage you shined just like the sun

Oh why thats what I keep asking
Was there anything I could have said or done
Oh I had no clue you were masking a troubled soul
Oh God only knows what went wrong and why you would leave the stage in the middle of a song

Now the oak trees a swaying in the early autumn breeze
The golden sun is shining on my face
Tangled thoughts i hear the mocking bird sing this old world really aint that bad a place

Oh I theres no comprehending and who am i to try judge or explain
But I do have one burning question
Who told you life wasnt worth the fight
They were wrong
They lied
Now your gone and we cry
Its just not like you to walk away in the middle of a song
Your beautiful song
Your absolutely beautiful song

I hear you about feeling uncomfortable hearing a song like that on the radio but at the same time, it's better than a lot of other crap they play on the radio- At least this song has a positive message about suicide and it tries to point out that there are other options :)

I think the arrangement of the song could use some work. But I think it is a song from the heart, and should be played. Why do you feel uncomfortable? It's reality... people kill themselves.

I have completely changed my mind on this song after listening to it a couple times. I love the song now that I truly understand and Gary's voice sounds even more amazing in this song then it does in other Rascal Flatts songs!

this song makes me think of a good friend that i lost 3 months ago in a car accident. no it was not suicide. but she was 17 and beautiful her twin sister listens to this all the time and it makes her think of her sister. its a really good song. Only god knows why she was taken so young.

I've only heard this song in the last few days as I usually don't listen to country music stations. The first time I heard it, it really disturbed me. I heard it again tonight and had to find the lyrics to make sure it's really about suicide. It's really sad and I hope it starts dialog that can help people, especially teenagers. There are people who are really hurting and they need to be reached out to. Know matter what you may be feeling, you are never alone and there is someone who cares.

let me guess, you would rather have k102 play other worthless songs like why wait with absolutely no content or meaning?!?!? why is the best song on the unstoppable cd and should be played for all to hear. suicide awareness is key to prevention. and in terms of being appropriate, i hope they mention something about suicide at their concert in a week just to piss you off!
