Kenny Chesney

I use to be Kenny Chesney self proclaimed biggest fan. I have seen him four times in concert and sang along with every song every time. He has a song for almost any event that might happen in your life that you can relate too. Lately I have had a change of heart. When my friend, Jamie, told me that she hated Kenny's new CD I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Jamie is the one who I would go to the concerts with and she loved Kenny as much if not more than I did. I decided to take a listen for myself and sadly I had to agree with her. His new CD is defiantly not music you expect to hear from Kenny I could barely call it country. It is mostly Caribbean/island music and there aren't any amazing "ballads" like there were on his previous albums. This week Kenny did win Entertainer of the Year award at the CMAs. He joined Garth Brooks as the only artist ever to claim the trophy four times. This win surprised me a little bit because I haven't heard much from Kenny lately. But, there is no doubt that he does put on an amazing show and I hope he comes back to his county roots soon.

I guess you haven't heard his Be As You Are cd because Lucky Ole Sun is a lot like that cd. I happen to like it; and am not sure why everyone says its beachy sounding. I think it does have the ballad sounds to it and I think Kenny's voice is really good on this new one. The title song with Willie is truly Kenny at his best. I hope you listen to it a few more times, you might realize it is a good "Kenny" fit. And Kenny won the Entertainer award because he has sold more concert tickets than any other country artist, plus he had 4 or 5 number one hits this year. He deserves that award; he worked hard for it!

I am also a huge Kenny fan and like you, I wasn't thrilled with the new cd. I'd even say I was disappointed. Then I listened to it again. And again. Now I love it! It's emotional. It's honest. It's Kenny! It's not a far stretch from Be As You Are which wasn't promoted but did well. I just think it wasn't what most people expected from a fully promoted Kenny album. But just because it's different doesn't mean it's bad or not equally as good in it's own right. I also think I appreciate it more knowing what he was going through/his state of mind when these songs were written. My favorite song is Way Down Here ~ especially the line "and I'm watching the sun ~ just like you ~ disappear" It breaks my heart! In any case, there's no denying his talent and dedication to the music and his fans. He just "gets it" and is fully deserving of Entertainer of the Year. I hope you give the new album another chance. I think you'll find it much better than you initially thought!

I was one of the first people to run into my nearest store to buy the lastest Kenny CD and yes I needed the acutal CD becuase that is how much I LOVE KC! I have every one of his CD's and yes I agree that his new one is alot like his Old Blue Chair. I like them but I don't love them. Maybe I'm too "MIDWEST COUNRTY" and maybe it's the fact that I don't think of "country" as sitting on a million dollar yacht in the ocean. KC's new CD might be "who he is" and I respect that and I understand that people change. The Kenny that I became a fan of might just be history!
